Hanoi Road Closures for National Day 2025: Travel Tips for Foreign Tourists

If you’re visiting Hanoi in late August or early September 2025, plan ahead! The city will host celebrations for the 80th anniversary of Vietnam National Day on September 2, including multiple parade rehearsals and the main event. As a result, many streets in central Hanoi will be closed, and traffic restrictions will be strictly enforced.

Parade Rehearsal Road Closures

Certain streets in Hanoi will be temporarily closed to traffic during the following times:

  • From 5:00 PM on August 21 to 3:00 AM on August 22
  • From 5:00 PM on August 24 to 3:00 AM on August 25
  • From 5:00 PM on August 27 to 3:00 AM on August 28
  • From 6:00 PM on August 29 to 3:00 PM on August 30

National Day Street Closures

 From 6:00 PM on September 1 to 3:00 PM on September 2.

Streets Closed During Hanoi National Day 2025 Celebrations

For the upcoming National Day 2025 celebrations, 54 streets in Hanoi will be completely closed to traffic at certain times. These streets include:


Central and West Hanoi: Hoang Hoa Tham, Thuy Khue (from Hung Vuong to Van Cao), Mai Xuan Thuong, Quan Thanh, Phan Dinh Phung, Hung Vuong, Thanh Nien, Hoang Van Thu, Doc Lap, Dien Bien Phu.


Ba Dinh and nearby areas: Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Chua Mot Cot, Le Hong Phong, Ong Ich Khiem, Ngoc Ha, Bac Son, Ton That Dam, Nguyen Canh Chan, Hoang Dieu, Nguyen Tri Phuong, Chu Van An, Ton Duc Thang, Cat Linh, Trinh Hoai Duc, Hang Chao, Tran Phu, Son Tay, Kim Ma, Lieu Giai, Van Cao.


West Lake and surrounding districts: Nghi Tam, Yen Phu, Cua Bac, Doi Can, La-Pho Hill, Nguyen Thai Hoc, Le Duan, Tran Nhan Tong (from Le Duan to Quang Trung), Trang Thi, Hang Khay, Trang Tien, Co Tan, Phan Chu Trinh (from Hai Ba Trung to Trang Tien), Le Thanh Tong, Tong Dan (from Ly Dao Thanh to Trang Tien), Tran Quang Khai, Tran Khanh Du.



Additional downtown streets: Quang Trung (from Ly Thuong Kiet to Trang Thi), Ly Thai To, Nguyen Huu Huan, Ngo Quyen (from State Bank Square to Trang Tien), Giang Vo, Lang Ha, Lang (from Lang Ha to Tran Duy Hung).

During these times, traffic inside Ring Road 1, covering downtown Hanoi, the Old Quarter, Sword Lake, and West Lake, will be restricted to authorized vehicles only, including security, service, and public transport vehicles. In surrounding areas, trucks over 1.5 tons and passenger vehicles with more than 16 seats will face restrictions. Some roads will also limit access for smaller commercial vehicles, private cars, and motorcycles.

What to Expect on September 2

The National Day parade at Ba Dinh Square will feature an impressive military display, including infantry, mechanized units, air and naval forces. About 16,000 participants will take part, including 43 marching groups, 18 static formations, and 14 specialized vehicles.



Foreign tourists should expect crowded streets, especially around Ba Dinh Square, Sword Lake, and the downtown districts of Cua Nam, Hai Ba Trung, Giang Vo, and Ngoc Ha.

Use Public Transportation

With many streets closed, it’s easiest to travel by bus, metro (where available), or walking in downtown Hanoi.

Stay Updated

Check hotel notices or local news for any changes to street closures or traffic schedules.

Plan Your Sightseeing

If you’re visiting areas like Ba Dinh Square, Sword Lake, or the Old Quarter, give yourself extra time to reach your destination.

Avoid Restricted Roads

Follow signs and local authority instructions. Trying to drive on closed streets can result in fines or delays.

Prepare for Crowds

Even if your focus isn’t the parade, streets around downtown Hanoi will be busy with locals and tourists attending rehearsals and cultural events.
